Presentation
This project is a fairly simple atmospheric tropical model. It take the form of a fortran90 library and is particularly well suited for education or research on tropical air-sea intercations. It is distributed under the Lesser GNU Public Licence (LGPL).
The model is the combination of a few other atmospheric models (see the bibliography):
- It basically starts from the Gill (1981) simple baroclinic two-layer model, and is forced by Sea surface Temperatures (SST).
- New levels are then introduced to solve the boundary layer using Neelin (1988). This helps to better simulate the wind stress direction at the sea level.
- An heat source is introduced following Kleeman (1991) using a simple formulation of a moisture equation. It is an approach to partly mimic the effect of deep convection onto the atmospheric dynamics at climate scales.
The internal constitution of the model is described in this document. However, the heating part is currently missing.
Warning: This project is under development and is still not usable. If you still want to get the sources, go to the download section to get them from the subversion repository.
